Salvation Army Youth Center for Latchkey Kids

Myra Janco Daniels, Chair, The Salvation Army Capital Campaign

Research shows that there is a very large number of students living in Collier County who don't have a place to go after school, or return to an empty house. The need is further demonstrated by the high number of students on Free or Reduced lunch at local schools

With this in mind, the Salvation Army has partnered with Myra Daniels and other members of the community to construct a new learning facility aimed at serving these "latchkey" kids by offering computer labs, classrooms and athletic facilities to students in Kindergarten through 12th grade.

Myra Janco Daniels served as the Chair of the Board of Directors and the Capital Campaign. Through this process she also founded the Latchkey League, an organization that supports children at-risk children.

"I don't think anybody can retire from living, and I really believe that everybody has a responsibility to make the place they live in a little bit better," she says.
